I was born in Ames, Iowa and grew up in Northfield, VT. As a young child, my mother sent me into the yard saying “There are a hundred colors of dirt out there. Go make me a picture.” From these beginnings has come a life of expressing myself through art.
To achieve the bold statements I’m after, I use a combination of mosaic, three-dimensional collage and assemblage. Focusing on what I call mixed media mosaics in the 90’s, I studied with artists in the states and Italy to learn techniques and materials.
Faces are a special passion and I use a combination of abstraction and realism to convey personality and circumstance. Nature’s inspiration is evident in my work as is my inclination to celebrate what’s right in the world.
