I was born - many years ago !- in France, and educated as a mining engineer and a geologist.
I always liked to draw, but I started to do it on a more regular basis when I worked on the field for my doctorate thesis in geology : drawing what I saw, landscapes, rocks, fossils ... was easier and more effective at this time, when photographs required a long time to develop and print. And from there, adding a few touches of colors here and there, came my taste for watercolors.
Watercolors do not require a lot of equipment and seem to me most appropriate when you want to keep an image of what you see while traveling, other than with a camera. More recently, nevertheless, I became fond of another medium, oil, and especially for abstract paintings, which are not part of the present show.
I could say that I am a "self-made man" when it comes to painting, although I learnt a lot from other painters from local groups, in the Montgomery Art Association, Strathmore or The Yellow Barn. And since my theoretical background in painting is very small, I believe I am essentially following my instinct when I paint. Only you, who visit this show, will be able to judge if there is a little merit in this approach.
