I love the quote by Goethe that says: "Whatever you can do, or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now." So, there I stand in front of a blank canvas with a loaded brush and begin. I’m ready for my current work to look less representational and more abstract. I start by using line to divide the painting into interesting sections which will then become its foundation. The resulting shapes come alive with layer after layer of color, texture, transparent glazing and, when approaching what I consider to be the end, detail. For a while focus is so intense that, for all I know, time has stopped. The blank canvas has undergone a quiet metamorphosis and life is good for now.
